My warmest welcome to all participants of the European Universities Championships 2023.
The European Universities Championships, as previous editions have proved, are a wonderful occasion to be together and experience the beauty of university sport. I am pleased that a great number of students and officials, sharing their love for sport, respecting Fair Play, competing in truly university sport spirit will meet in many cities across the Europe.
During such events we do more than just sport – we broaden our horizons, get to know other cultures, we promote a healthy society, we stand on the side of peace, respecting and celebrating diversity.
Being the Organizer of the Championship is challenging but at the end rewarding as well. I want to express my appreciation to the Organizing Committees, its Partners and the volunteers who give their crucial contribution to the success of the event. My gratitude extends to the National, Regional and Local Authorities for their auspices of this event.
I believe that the European Universities Championships will bring the participants unforgettable experiences and lots of personal achievements. I hope all of you will enjoy your time, and life-long friendships between European Students will be legacy of all the events.

The leadership of the University of Debrecen bid for the organisation of the European University 3x3 Basketball Championship of 2021. We won the host of European Universities Games of 2024.
With a history of over four and a half centuries, the University of Debrecen is Hungary's oldest institute of higher education continuously operating in the same town.
The University of Debrecen has become an intellectual centre having the widest spectrum of education programmes in Hungary, which undertakes a role in the competitive sector, business life, as well as the social and economic life of the local community. In addition to our performing our basic tasks at the highest level, we also undertake roles in the development in the economic and sports life of Hungary, and appear as services providers in the innovation activities of multinationals, as well as the companies of our respective regions.
Our institute is also sport university, and we have most athletic student communities. Therefore, our university has outstanding sport infrastructure. The local communities in Debrecen love sports and our athletes, which also contributes to our individual athletes and teams achieving great results
Our success and thus also the success of the European Universities 3x3 Basketball Championship in 2021, is inherent in our traditions, development and commitment.
