The first tournament day of the 3x3 European Basketball Championship was held in front of the University of Debrecen Main Building on Sunday. After a spectacular opening ceremony, the participants took to the court in a series of high quality matches.

On the first day of play, both the men's and women's defending champions were on fire in their matches, putting in a performance worthy of a title. In the university girls' competition, the winners from Lodz, Ukraine's Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian University, played one match this time, winning 22-6 against the University of Minho, while in the men's competition, Lithuania's Vytautas Magnus University played twice, both times also winning in emphatic fashion. The host University of Debrecen men's team had three appearances on the battlefield, with Mátyás Gáspár's team ending the day with one win and two defeats, while the Debrecen girls started with a win against Western Brittany from France.

The first day of play also saw the first round of the two-point shoot-out, with the five players with the most points advancing.

At the end of the day, Soma Balázsi of the host men's team said. The team from Debrecen, although we are of course hoping to qualify, will be a close race. However, it is a very moving and motivating feeling to play in front of our own university and our own audience.
